Early and Personal Life:

Potts was born on 13th October 1970 in Kingswood, Bristol. He was born to Roland and Yvonne. His father worked as a bus driver whereas his mother was a cashier at a supermarket. He has three siblings, two brothers, and one sister. During his Junior School in Chester Park, he was the part of the choir and that is when he developed his love for singing. During his school life, he was bullied which led to a lack of self-confidence. After finishing school, he did various part-time jobs before being a part of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’. He graduated from University College Plymouth St Mark & St John with a B.A. Honours degree in Humanities in 1993. In 1996, he joined Bristol City to represent the Eastville ward as a Liberal Democrat councilor. Paul Potts married Julie-Ann in 2003 whom he met in 2001 in an Internet Chat room.

Career:

He has sung various performances in operas in minor roles. Later on, he went on to perform leading roles in Mozart’s ‘Marriage of Figaro’, Verdi’s ‘Aida’ & ‘Don Carlos’ and many more. In 2007, he went on to join ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ where he received a standing ovation from the audience. He was the contestant to receive the highest public vote in that show. He won the show with two million votes winning an amount of €100,000. Then, he performed in front of Queen Elizabeth II at Royal Variety Performance. He received criticism for his appearance in the show as a mobile salesman whereas he had already performed in Royal Orchestra and was an experienced performer. He stated that although he had trained a little but was an amateur and that he had never performed at any concert. His singing teacher confirmed saying he took classes till 2003 and then gave up due to his illness. In 2007, he released his debut album ‘One Chance’ which took #1 on the UK Album Chart and sold around 2,000,000 copies. Then, he went on to perform various shows and also toured in 85 cities across 23 countries. He also performed in The Oprah Winfrey Show. Potts has also sung for a Japanese advertisement for a throat medicine. He won the Best International Male Artist and Album of the Year by Echo Awards 2009. Along with Kylie Gillies, he went on to host ‘The Morning Show’. He participated in the Korean TV show ‘Star King’ twice, in 2008 and 2010 and he also participated in the soundtrack of Korean drama Queen Seondeok in 2009. He performed a full-length Opera in 2016. In 2017, he won ‘Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend’, a South Korean TV Show. He participated in ‘America’s Got Talent: The Champions’ in 2019 but could not make it to the Top 5.
